Although small in size, Conquest has always been a
great place to raise a family. Community spirit is high. Everyone knows
everyone and if you are new, its not long before you are known to others
in our Village. Our main business is our local Co-op which offers grocery,
hardware, lumber, animal health supplies, fuel and liquor vendor. As
well, we have Canada Post and our Merchants Hotel which is under new
ownership and scheduled to reopen in late 2007.
Our community has a natural ice rink that is used by minor and senior
hockey teams during the winter months. The rink is the place to be in
the winter if you have nothing to do--always hockey games to watch and
our 'homemade' hamburgers to enjoy with your fries or onion rings. The
rink is equipped with 2 sheets of artificial ice for curling.
The community's school was closed in 1996 with children from our area
now being bussed 20 kms to Outlook, Saskatchewan to attend either the
K-5 elementary school or the 6-12 high school. Three bus shelters are
located throughout the Village within one block walking distance for
students. Our school has now been turned into a community center where
classrooms have been taken over by the Conquest Branch of the Wheatland
Regional Library, the Conquest B.P.O. Elks Lodge #294, the Conquest Royal
Purple Lodge #203, and our local journeyman hairdresser. As well, a morning
coffee room is open Tuesday to Saturday, a meeting room is used for jazz,
tap, ballet, hip/hop classes, dog training classes and other meetings.
This facility has also been used in the past for family reunions and
weddings.
Conquest is a sporting community that has held provincial titles in both
fastball and senior hockey. Senior hockey is still strong in Conquest.
Minor hockey is thriving as well. Minor ball teams keep active in the
spring and summer on the ball diamonds in the Elks Park as you come into
our village.
Conquest Seniors offer for sale on Mondays at their Activity Centre,
coffee as well as a homemade soup/sandwich lunch. Their group puts on
a monthly pot luck supper for those having birthdays in that month. Cards
are also played.
Services not available in our community can be found in our neighbouring
community of Outlook, only 15 minutes away. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan,
90 kms away, is the most preferred city to go for shopping and other
services. The Variety Place Group Home is located in Outlook for those
with special needs. Outlook Health Care Centre/Hospital, Riverbend Pharmacy,
local RCMP, and 2 veterinarian clinics can be found in Outlook and Brattten.
Conquest draws its water from an underground aquifer located northeast
of the village. Water is piped into the village and treated at our Water
Treatment Plant. Water quality is good and testing is done on a weekly
basis with samples being sent to the Provincial Lab in Regina, Saskatchewan
for testing.
Conquest is located 40 minutes from Gardiner Dam/Lake Diefenbaker. Swimming,
fishing, boating and camping are not far. Campers frequent Danielson
Provincial Park and Outlook & District Regional Park. You will also
find excellent hunting for deer and water fowl in the area. Each spring
the Ardath Field Trial Club ('Rain Makers') hold their dog trials in
our area. Nearby golf courses at Outlook, Saskatchewan and Milden, Saskatchewan
are 15 to 25 minutes away.
Conquest lies in the heart of the Rural Municipality of Fertile Valley
No. 285. Possibilities for irrigation and future oil and gas exist.
